Arthur Rimbaud is a paramount erratic block in the history of literature. He has written his oeuvere in teenage and has stopped writing in the age of 21 years. Afterwards he was travelling mostly by foot and finally settling in Aden as commercial agent dealing with coffee and weapons. Rimbaud was the exemplarily P0ète maudit, he had a deep impact not only on the French literature of the 20th century but on different writers like Dylan Thomas, Vladimir Nabokov, the writers of the Beat Generation, musicians like Jim Morrison, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, dirtectors and actors like Klaus Kinski among many others. Leonardo di Caprio portrayed Rimbaud in the 1995 film Total Eclipse about the affair with the poet Paul Verlaine, who has made this drawing of the young Rimbaud 1872.
“L´éternité” is one of the most magic poems in the history of literature. It starts and ends in the version of Une saison en enfer with the verse
Elle est retrouvée !/Quoi ? l’éternité./C’est la mer mêlée/Au soleil.
The whole poem you can read in original French on this beautiful website, the English version here. PAROL has knitted into a scarf this amazing poetic line
